How can I send letters to Mainland China?

1、Ordinary letters may be posted directly into mailboxes at post offices nationwide. Registered letters should be presented at post office counters for mailing.
2、Air mail items sent from Taiwan to Mainland China are collected by post offices and dispatched to the Taipei Air Mail Center for consolidation, then forwarded by air on the following day via Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or other transit offices in Mainland China.

What is the postage for sending letters to Mainland China? Can I send them by registered mail?

1、Mail services to Mainland China are currently divided into two categories: Air Mail and Surface Air Lifted (SAL). For a letter weighing up to 20 grams, the postage rates are as follows:
(1)Air Mail Letter: NT$9. If registered service is required, an additional registration fee of NT$65 applies, for a total of NT$74.
(2)SAL Letter: NT$7 (registered service is not available).

Should envelopes for mail to Mainland China be written vertically or horizontally?

Letters sent to Mainland China may use horizontal envelopes. The recipient’s address and name may be written directly in Chinese on the envelope.

Can I send parcels or goods to Mainland China?

Since direct cross-strait postal services were launched on December 15, 2008, items may be sent to Mainland China via Small Packet, Parcel, EMS, and other mail services. Please refer to the Postal Services section on Chunghwa Post’s official website for details.

Effective January 14, 2026, “Air Registered Small Packets to Mainland China (including Advice of Delivery service)” are no longer accepted. Customers are advised to use the Cross-Strait “Postal ePacket” service instead, which also provides registered features, including recipient signature confirmation, mail tracking, a written inquiry service, and a compensation mechanism.

How can I send small items under 2 kg to Mainland China?

1、Effective January 14, 2026, “Air Registered Small Packets to Mainland China (including Advice of Delivery service)” are no longer accepted. Customers are advised to use the “Cross-Strait Postal ePacket” service instead, which provides registered features including recipient signature confirmation, mail tracking, written inquiry service, and compensation mechanism.
2、If registered service is not required, customers may use either:
   - Air Ordinary Small Packet, or
   -SAL Ordinary Small Packet
(These services do not provide recipient signature confirmation, mail tracking, written inquiry service, or compensation.)

What is the estimated delivery time for mail to Mainland China?

Estimated delivery times to major cities are as follows:
1、Air Mail: approximately 7–15 business days from the date of posting.
2、SAL Mail: approximately 30–45 business days from the sailing date.
3、EMS: approximately 3–7 business days from the date of posting.
4、Cross-strait Postal Courier (EMS) (including Travel Carton): approximately 3–9 business days from the date of posting.
5、Cross-Strait Postal ePacket: approximately 4–12 business days from the date of posting.


※Notes:
⦁The above delivery standards do not include the time required for security inspection, customs clearance, or customs retention. Additional transit time may be required for suburban or remote areas.
⦁Mainland China public holidays (such as Lunar New Year, Qingming Festival, Labor Day holidays, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, National Day holidays, etc.) and weekends are not counted as business days.
⦁Delivery may be delayed due to weather conditions, force majeure events, flight delays or cancellations, or peak mailing seasons in Mainland China (such as “Double 11” online shopping promotions).

What is the difference between the “Cross-Strait Postal ePacket” and the “International ePacket”?

1、Cross-Strait Postal ePacket:
(1)Refers to mail items transported between Taiwan and Mainland China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Mongolia) via sea-air or air-mail routes, with stable delivery standards in Mainland China.
(2)This service includes registered features such as recipient signature confirmation, mail tracking, written inquiry service, and compensation mechanism. For details, please refer to the “Cross-Strait Postal ePacket” service information on Chunghwa Post’s website.

2、International ePacket:
(1)Classified as ordinary letter-post mail. Delivery status may be tracked through Chunghwa Post’s website; however, items are delivered directly to the address without signature confirmation. Written inquiry service and compensation are not provided.

Which mail services to Mainland China require customers to submit ITMATT (ITeM ATTribute information) through EZPost?

1、In line with digitalization initiatives, effective October 1, 2025, customers sending “EMS (Documents and Merchandise)” and Cross-strait Postal Courier (EMS)  (including Travel Carton) to Mainland China must first enter shipment information online and print the shipping label and related documents through the EZPost (https://ezpost.post.gov.tw/CrossStrait/).
2、To facilitate faster import customs clearance, additional services including “Mainland China Parcels,” Cross-Strait Postal ePacket,” and “Mainland China Ordinary Small Packets” were added to EZPost effective April 29, 2026.
3、Mail items submitted with handwritten forms may result in longer processing times. Additional mail categories available for online form creation in the future will be announced separately.

※Note:
ITMATT(ITeM ATTribute information):ITMATT stands for IteM ATTribute information. It is a standardized electronic data interchange (EDI) message used by postal operators within the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

Can medications be mailed to Mainland China?

1、According to Mainland China customs regulations, medications for personal use may be mailed to Mainland China within reasonable quantities for self-use, except for the following prohibited items:
【Prohibited Medications】
(1)Opium, morphine, heroin, and cannabis.
(2)Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
(3)Antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, sleeping pills, anti-epileptic drugs, stimulants, weight-loss drugs, or other medications that may contain prohibited ingredients. If uncertain, please consult the National Medical Products Administration of China.

2、Important notes regarding mailing medications:
(1)Senders must accurately declare the type and quantity of medications enclosed. Quantities should be limited to reasonable amounts for personal use only.
(2)According to announcements issued by the General Administration of Customs of China, the value limit for personal postal articles is RMB 2,000 per shipment. Items exceeding the limit may be returned or processed in accordance with import cargo clearance procedures.
(3)Import duties may be levied by Mainland China Customs. However, assessed import duties of RMB 50 or less are exempted.
(4)If customs declaration procedures are required, supporting documents such as medical certificates issued by qualified medical institutions, doctor’s prescriptions, explanations regarding the patient’s condition, and medication pricing information may be requested, subject to customs requirements.
(5)If prohibited medications are discovered, Mainland China Customs may confiscate or detain the items depending on the severity of the case.
(6)Customs clearance for mailed items cannot be guaranteed. As regulations concerning medications are relatively complex, customers are advised to consult Mainland China Customs before mailing.
