As an introduction to the beauty of South Penghu Marine National Park, Chunghwa Post has specially released a set of four stamps depicting the Blue Cave on Xijiyu, the Forest of “Sea Lavender” on Dongjiyu, the Basalt Stack and Platform on Xiyupingyu and the Terraced Fields and Walls on Dongyupingyu. The stamps are described below:

1. Blue Cave on Xijiyu (NT$ 6): Situated on the northwest coast of Xijiyu, the Blue Cave is formed by the sea eating into the cliff. The roof of the Cave has fallen in, forming a hollow in the cliff. From land, it looks like an early kitchen stove and so is termed Stove Cage by the locals. At noon the sunlight on the sea is reflected up turning the hollow into a dreamy blue fantasy world, earning it the moniker “Blue Cave.” The Green Sea Turtle is listed as an endangered species by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). The Pescadores are one of the few stable nesting spots for the turtles in Taiwan.
2. Forest of “Sea Lavender” on Dongjiyu (NT$ 8): Thanks to the clarity of the water and sufficiency of the sunshine, the sea in South Penghu Marine National Park is a paradise for the growth of coral reefs. The stunning beauty of beds of Acropora gemmifera coral on Dongjiyu is like a forest of lavender in the sea. The Giant Triton mollusk is the bane of the coral's deadly enemy, the Crown-of-Thorns Starfish. The mollusk protects the coral from being eaten by the starfish.

3. Basalt Stack and Platform on Xiyupingyu (NT$ 9): A few dozen meters off the northeast corner of Xiyupingyu, a 10-meter-high stack and platform eroded by the waves stand up in the sea. This unique formation is caused by the interaction of the ocean cutting away at the shoreline. The Greater Crested Tern is a common summer migrant in the Pescadores and often appears on the cliffs and reefs.
4. Terraced Fields and Walls on Dongyupingyu (NT$ 15): The walls to protect the vegetables growing on Dongyupingyu form the appearance of terraces. Although an exodus of people away from the island and a subsequent growth of weeds has taken its toll yet the relics still standing are a testimony to the farming people of old. Hsiang-ju (Glossogyne tenuifolia), called Feng-ju by the locals, is a perennial herb native to the Pescadores.
