Modern Taiwanese Paintings Postage Stamps (Issue of 2019)
As an introduction to the achievements of native Taiwanese artists and in continuity with the Modern Taiwanese Paintings Postage Stamps (Issue of 2018), Chunghwa Post is planning a set of four stamps based on these four paintings: Festival on South Street and Guitar held by the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, and Ferry of the Egret and Studio, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. A detailed description of the stamps follows:

1. Kuo Hsueh-hu's Festival on South Street (NT$8): This picture uses exaggerated, dramatic gestures to portray the festive atmosphere around the Xiahai City God Temple on Dihua St., Dadaocheng. People are busily milling around the temple entrance whilst banners hang in columns like trees in a forest. The whole picture is full of social realism and visual interest. Gouache on silk, 188 × 94.5 cm, 1930.
2. Chen Yung-sen's Ferry of the Egret (NT$8): The painting uses the “boneless” style for the more definite shape of the egret and lotuses and semi-abstract, simplified arc lines to reveal the green leaves and stems. The result is most interesting. The few black lines that delineate the leaves seem to be carelessly drawn yet are in fact absolutely correct, simple yet firm. Gouache on paper, 195.5 × 149.5 cm, 1984.
3. Chang Yi-hsiung's Guitar (NT$15): The surface of the table is cluttered with objects and seems about to collapse were it not for its black, three-footed leg and the dark-red floor, which bring balance to the picture and create a powerful sense of movement. Oil on canvas, 99.5 × 80 cm, 1956.

4. Hsiao Ju-sung's Studio (NT$15): This work uses lines and blocks to depict the ordered space of an ideal studio. Short, light brushstrokes are used for flowers and the curtains. In the stability of this space we welcome the sunlight streaming in, gently touching the beholders' senses. Watercolor and ink on paper, 72 × 100 cm, 1969.

This set of stamps was designed by Delta Design Corporation and printed in color offset by China Color Printing Co., Ltd. By-issues including a first-day cover, folders with and without crystal mounts, and a loose-leaf album page will be released along with the stamps and will go on sale on June 19, 2019. A pre-cancelled FDC with one NT$8-denominated stamp or the full set of stamps will go on sale on June 21, 2019, the stamps' date of issuance.
