To welcome the New Year, Chunghwa Post is releasing a set of two stamps and one souvenir sheet entitled “New Year’s Greeting Postage Stamps (Issue of 2018).” The stamps depict the pigs as simple, clear-cut silhouettes set in a background full of color, decorated with plum blossoms and patterns in red and gold indicative of the atmosphere of joy of New Year. They are described as follows:
1. NT$6 stamp: Amid luxuriant plum blossoms, a red pig gives birth to a gold pig as a sign of the unending cycle of life and an expression of continuous good fortune.
2. NT$13 stamp: A piglet nestles within a large pig covered in plum blossoms, giving a taste of the good fortune and joyful spirit of the New Year.
3. NT$15 souvenir sheet: A pair of pigs face each other surrounded by plum blossoms and clouds of good fortune, conveying the idea of a double portion of prosperity and the atmosphere of fortune and good luck.
As an added incentive for collectors, a set of “uncut press sheets of New Year’s Greeting Postage Stamps (Issue of 2018)” release of philatelic products will be issued on the same day in a special tube. The release will feature one certificate of authenticity, one uncut press sheet comprising nine souvenir sheets, and two uncut press sheets (one containing two panes of 20 NT$6 stamps and the other containing two panes of 20 NT$13 stamps). The margins retain the color markings and the marks for cutting used in the process of printing. Such exceptional products, of great value for collectors, have been provided by Chunghwa Post since 2009. This item will not apply to any discount measures.
This set of stamps was designed by UP Creative Design and Advertising Corporation, the winner of the second session of the fifth round of the competition for the design of New Year’s Greeting Postage Stamps held by Chunghwa Post. The stamps will be printed in color offset by La Poste (France). By-issues including a first-day cover, folders with and without crystal mounts, and a loose-leaf album page will be released along with the stamps and will go on sale on November 29, 2018. A pre-cancelled FDC with one NT$6 stamp, with the full set of stamps or with a souvenir sheet will go on sale on December 3, 2018, the stamps’ date of issuance. Purchasers are welcome.
