It has already been stated that Empress Dowager’s Birthday Commemorative Stamps were repeatedly printed and surcharged in dollar currency for use as definitive stamps· In the later period among those surcharged in big Arabic figures the 1/2 ¢ and 2¢ stamps overprinted on the 3-candarin and 2-candarin denominations, respectively, were produced by new plates re-drawn by R. A. de Villard with slight alterations (P-2 & P-3). Such stamps are commonly known as 〝Re-drawn stamps.〞Following are the differences in stamps produced by the original and re-drawn plates: 2-candarin stamps1. Original design: the numeral〝2〞is small and has a curved base.2. Re-drawn design: the numeral〝2〞is larger and the base straight.3-candarin stamps1. Original design: the characters 〝參分〞 are small. The〝Pa Kua〞is not clear.2. Re-drawn design: the characters 〝參分〞 are larger. The lines in〝Pa Ku〞look clearer .
