To support the Butterflies Protection Movement and to develop sightseeing opportunities, a set of〝Taiwan Butterflies Postage Stamps〞was released. Taiwan has long been known as〝 the kingdom of butterflies,〞because in proportion to the land area of Taiwan, in number of species and in quantity it ranks first in the world. Also Taiwan is the leading country in the world in the production and the export of artifacts made of butterflies. The stamps feature four species of butterflies indigenous to Taiwan-Idea leuconoe clara Bulter, Hebomoia glaucippe formosana Fruhstorfer, Stichophthalma howqua formosana Fruhstorfer, and Atrophaneura horishana Matsumura. The selections were recommended by entomologist Mr.Weso Chen. Each stamp features one butterfly and for background uses its favorite tree and flower.
