The Cinese Postal Administration is one of the members of the Universal Postal Union, and to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the U.P.U., it issued a set of commemorative stamps in 1949 with the emblem of the United Nations and two pigeons flying towards each other as the central design.
These stamps were printed in intaglio by the Shanghai Printing Press of the Dah Tung Book Co. and bore no face value when printed. The value (one dollar) shown in No.5 Regular-Writing characters at the bottom and in Arabic figures in the upper left corner was the overprint made by the Nanking Printing Press at Canton after the Government had moved to Canton.
