The China Merchants Steam Navigation Co., established in 1872, is the oldest and biggest shipping company in China. A set of stamps was issued for the commemoration of its 75th anniversary. This set consists of two designs, one vertical and the other horizontal, the details of which follow： $20,000 and $30,000 denominations. In these stamps (vertical) a modern vessel and an old-fashioned steamer are shown side by side. The face value is shown in the lower two corners with numerals〝1872-1947〞printed above the Chinese characters and Arabic figures. $40,000 and $60,000 denominations. The picture in the horizontal design is the full view of the S. S.〝Chiang Ya〞 under steam. The numeral〝1872〞 was inscribed in the space astern and 〝1947〞in the space near her bow.
