To help promote the Chinese Cultural Renaissance Movement, this Directorate released a set of stamps featuring ancient Chinese stone carving. With designs recommended by the National Museum of History, this set consists of four 5.00 stamps, which are arranged horizontally se-tenant. The four pieces of stone carving featured on the stamps are briefly described as follows:
1. HEAD OF A BODHISATTVA Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) Sandstone; height: 32 cm. (14 in.)
2. STANDING BUDDHA Northern Chi Dynasty (550-577) Limestone; height: 78 cm. (31 in.)
3. HEAD OF A BODHISATTVA Tang Dynasty (618-907) Sandstone; height: 38.5 cm. (15 in.)
4. SEATED BUDDHA Tang Dynasty (618-907) Alabaster; height: 52.5 cm. (21 in.)
