Description

To encourage the people of Taiwan to explore the island’s colorful landscapes, the Post launches a series of hand-painted stamps. The first of the series, a souvenir sheet, contains 4 stamps that feature 4 noted destinations of Taitung, and set against the backdrop of the bike trail in Guanshan, Taitung County. The designs follow:
1. Sanxiantai (NT$5): Sitting in Chenggong Township, Taitung County, Sanxiantai consists of several outlying islets and a stretch of beautiful coral coast. The arch cross-ocean bridge connects the coast to the island of Taiwan. The bridge is a notable landmark along the east coast. Watching the first light of the year at Sanxiantai has recently been listed as a must-do in eastern Taiwan.
2. The Luye Highlands (NT$5): This is a highland in Luye Township, Taitung County. The International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta held here every summer is a focal point for tourism, as multicolored balloons fleck the skies to create a visual marvel. The event has made the Luye Highlands an emerging tourist attraction of this picturesque county.
3. Lanyu (NT$10): Lanyu is a volcanic island situated off the southeastern coast of Taitung. It is immensely popular with saltwater fishermen and divers. The wood-planked boats built by the Yami people are eye-catching for their sleek lines and bright colors, attesting to the people’s superlative craftsmanship.
4. National Museum of Prehistory (NT$12): It is Taiwan’s first museum dedicated to prehistoric and indigenous cultures, the first museum to contain a prehistoric site and eco-park in the premises, and the first national museum built on the east coast of Taiwan.
