With the excellent public reception for “Air signs,” the first in a series of astrological stamp sets, the Directorate General of Posts is now issuing the second set in the series. This time it’s the “Earth Signs”: Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo. The given sign’s constellation chart will be the main theme of each stamp. Each stamp will also include smaller designs showing the constellation’s location, as well as the sign’s symbol, its Chinese and English names, and its dates. In addition to the regular rectangular perforation on the edge of each stamp, there will be a perforated oval within each stamp to suggest the orbit of a planet.
Ancient Western astronomers divided the Zodiac into 12 signs based on the constellation of the sky. (Likewise, the ancient Chinese had their own astrological system that divided the zodiac into 12 sections, each of which had a corresponding terrestrial branch). The signs (and branches) are Aries (hsu), Taurus (yu), Gemini (shen), Cancer (wei), Leo (wu), Virgo (szu), Libra (chen), Scorpio (mao), Sagittarius (yin), Capricorn (chou), Aquarius (tzu) and Pisces (hai). Knowing about the different characteristics of each sign can help you better understand yourself and others, and with this knowledge you can perfect your life.
