Situated in the subtropics, Taiwan is an ideal breeding ground for butterflies. Its natural environment fosters a luxurious and rapid growth of butterflies of many species, including a few rare and fascinating ones. Today, some species are facing the danger of extinction by disappearance of habitat and increasing pollution unless preventive measures are taken soon. The stamps feature respectively four attractive species of commonly found butterflies: Salatura genutia Cramer, Hypolimnas misippus Linnaeus, Pieris canidia Linnaeus and Precis almana almana Linnaeus.
