The fishery industy, playing an essential part in people's lives, is an important economic resource of this country. To direct public attention to the significance of our fishery resources, this Directorate released a set of two stamps. The 2.00 stamp takes Epinephelus tauvina (Forsskal) as the main design, with a close-up view in the upper right corner that shows the cultivation of fish in an inshore area. The 18.00 stamp depicts Saurida undosquamis (Richardson) complete with a fishing net of larger mesh. This illustration encourages fishermen to leave young fish so that they can multiply.
The stamps were based on the idea given by Professor Shen Shih-chieh of Zoology Department, National Taiwan University.
