Description
The famous Tsu Shih (Divine Ancestor )& Temple of Sanhsia, Taipei County is featured on the set of four stamps. The 2.00 stamp pictures a skillfully carved lion and the 3.00 stamp a pair of lions which form a bracket set. The 5.00 stamp depicts the delicately carved sub-lintels that decorate a temple passageway. The 18.00 stamp pictures the gently curved, brightly decorated tiled roofs.
Taiwan temple architecture belongs to the architecture of Southern China which is marked by delicate, elaborate, and ornate decorations. The Tsu Shih Temple, built in 1768, has been renovated or refurbished three times. The third renovation, conducted by Professor Li Mei-shu, was begun in 1947 and is not yet complete.
