Description

The Techi Reservoir is the key project for developing the hydroelectric potential of the Techia River basin, one of the major rivers in Taiwan. The construction of the project was started on December 8, 1969 and completed in September 1974. To mark the completion of the great project, a set of postage stamps was issued.

The dam is located at the entrance of the precipitous Tachien Gorge in the middle reach of the Tachia River, approximately 90 kilometers from Taichung city. The double-curvature, concrete arch is 180 meters high, the highest of its kind in Taiwan. The effective storage is 175 million cubic meters. It was originally known as Tachien Dam and was renamed 〝Techi〞(literally the foundation of virtue) by our late President Chiang Kai-shek.
