This set of stamps each uses a similar design, a cow licking her calf, symbolizing human parental love. The style of the design is popular art prevalent among the people of China. This kind of art is similar to silhouette cutting. The love of the cow for her calf is clearly expressed in the painting. The year 1973 in Chinese lunar calendar is the Year of the Ox, the choice of the design is not only to promote the Chinese Cultural Renaissance Movement, but also to commemorate the Year of the Ox.

Eighty stamps are divided into four panes in each whole sheet, with a cross in the middle. At the proper place of the cross, twenty red square chops engraved with four slim Chinese seal characters like iron wire, meaning. Happy New Year, are printed.
