The Federation Internationale de Ske (F.I.S.) was founded in 1924, the year the first Winter Olympic Games took place in France. The Republic of China joined the F.I.S. in 1967 and was formally invited to participate in the 11th Winter Olympic Games held in Sapporo, Japan. To mark the occasion, a set of Winter Games stamps was released on the inauguration date, February 3, 1972. For its central designs, this series bear three kinds of skiing-down hill, cross country and giant slalom the five interlocking Olympic rings are in the upper right or upper left corner of each stamp. The arrangement of the marginal inscription in this series is different from the former ones. Every whole sheet of 80 stamps consists of four blocks and every block has 20 stamps. On the four sides of each block, marginal inscriptions are printed.
