Because of being an archipelago with 70 odd islands, large and small, Taiwan has a coastline extending well over 1,600 kilometers and is a center of the Southern Fishing Ground in China. In recent years, with government encouragement and assistance, Taiwan Fisheries have achieved a remarkable development and its fish production considerably increased. The products of the fisheries not only are available for home consumption, but also find good markets in the United States and in European countries. To arouse public interest in the bountiful fish resources of Taiwan, a set of Taiwan Fishes Postage Stamps was issued.
