Our country's first President and Vice President, elected directly by the people in the country's first-ever presidential elections, took offices on May 20 this year. To mark the occasion, a set of 4 stamps and a souvenir sheet featuring the portrait of the President and the Vice President were issued, with the national flag, the presidential-office building, the development of Asia-Pacific Operations Hub project, or folk activities showing in the background. The souvenir sheet is comprised of the four commemorative stamps.
Our country's first-ever presidential elections were completed smoothly on March 23, 1996, an important milestone marking a substantial achievement in the country's democratization. The elections also demonstrated to the world that the Republic of China on Taiwan has entered the forest of democratic countries.
