Description
National Chiao Tung University was founded in 1896, and this year, 1996, it reaches its 100th anniversary. In conjunction with the university's celebration activities, this Directorate issued a stamp, on April 8, 1996, featuring the university's well-known "Electrical Emphasis". The buildings of the university are portrayed in the background of this NT$19.00 commemorative stamp.
The educational goal of the NCTU since its founding has been to cultivate scientists and engineers. Based on the idea that teaching and research are complementary, the NCTU is dedicated to raising the national academic level and at the same time providing technical assistance and service for high-tech research and modern management in agreement with the government' s policies on economy, transportation, and national defense. Since its opening, the NCTU has regarded itself as the nation's scientific pioneer, both developing such new technologies as Electronics and Communication, and directing the development of the local industrial and commercial sectors. The university, in a real sense, has laid a solid foundation for the development and application of the national electrical engineering industry.
