Description

  The United Nations, officially inangurated on October 24, 1945, by 1970 had 126 member states. The purposes of the U.N. include the maintenance of international peace and security, the development of friendly relation among nations, and international cooperation in solving international economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian problems. Also, it emphasizes respect for human rights and undamental freedoms, and the harmony of actions by all nations in attaining these common ends. The year 1970 was the 25th anniversary of the U.N. To mark this occasion, a commemorative stamp was issued.
