Description

Chunghwa Post issued its first and second sets of definitive postage stamps in its “Pets” series on December 2005 and March 2006. Now it is following up with a third set of four stamps featuring two breeds of dog (Yorkshire Terrier and Pomeranian) and two breeds of cat (Abyssinian and Norwegian Forest Cat). These stamps will be denominated at NT$1.00, NT$9.00, NT$15.00 and NT$20.00 respectively. The designs follow:

(1) Originating in England, Yorkshire Terriers are small and beautiful, with tan and steel-blue long, fine, silky coats of hair that don’t smell. Ever alert, they have a happy and lively temperament and have long been a popular choice for pets.
(2) A toy dog originating in Germany, the Pomeranian is a Spitz-type dog breed. Apart from their faces and the lower halves of their limbs, they are covered with long coats of hair. Their tails curl over their backs. They are friendly, loyal and highly alert but rather neurotic and excitable.
(3) Abyssinians were bred from cats brought back to England by a British soldier from Abyssinia. Abyssinians are intelligent but somewhat aloof. They have fine short hair, slender legs and small oval-shaped paws. They stand well off the ground, giving the impression of being on tiptoe, like ballet dancers. Hence, they are sometimes called “ballet cats.”
(4) Originating in Norway, Norwegian Forest Cats have triangular heads that are slightly flat, straight noses, big round eyes, muscular chests and agile. They are tame and obedient with thick coats of hair to fend off severe weather.
