Description

Chunghwa Post issued the first of its "Pets" definitive postage stamps in 2005, and now it is following up with a second set of four stamps featuring two breeds of dog (Labrador and St. Bernard) and two breeds of cat (Siamese and Persian) with the denominations of NT$2.50, NT$7.00, NT$10.00 and NT$32.00 respectively. The designs follow:
(1) Labrador: Originally bred as working dogs, Labrador dogs are playful, gentle, intelligent, obedient and loyal. They have been bred primarily as hunting dogs and are popular as guide dogs for the blind. Their good judgment and scenting ability make them excellent choices for search and rescue missions as well as narcotics detection.
(2) St. Bernard: Originating in Switzerland, St. Bernard dogs are large dogs known for their gentleness and loyalty. Their dense coat of fur, great physical endurance and powerful scenting ability make them great search and rescue dogs in the Alps.
(3) Siamese: Originally the royal cats of Thailand, Siamese cats have eyes the color of sapphires, v-shaped heads, elongated bodies, slender tails and limbs, and a short silky coat. They are elegant, intelligent, playful and agile. However, they are rather temperamental in their disposition.
(4) Persian: Persian cats acquired fame because Queen Victoria of England had raised them. They have round and wide heads, short muzzles, large and round eyes, and a soft, lustrous and long thick coat. They are quiet, not very athletic and like to be with people.
