Description
In step with changing lifestyles, keeping pets has become a global trend. Chunghwa Post is issuing a series of definitive postage stamps entitled “Pets Postage Stamps” based on the theme of cats and dogs, man’s best friends. The first set of four stamps features two breeds of dog (Siberian Husky and Golden Retriever) and two breeds of cat (Himalayan and Scottish Fold) denominated at NT$3.50, NT$5.00, NT$12.00 and NT$25.00 respectively.
The designs follow:
(1) Siberian Husky (NT$3.50): The Siberian Husky is a strong breed that endures cold well. Wolfish in appearance, Huskies are clever, docile and loyal. They can endure extreme hardship and are team players—a very excellent breed indeed. Once kept mostly as sled dogs or to assist with hunting and herding, now many also serve as companion dogs.
(2) Golden Retriever (NT$5.00): One of the most popular large dog breeds in Taiwan. Golden Retrievers are quiet, well mannered, gentle and intelligent. Like Labradors, which are also popular large dogs, they serve splendidly as guide dogs for the blind or as companion dogs.
(3) Himalayan (NT$12.00): The Himalayans were breed from Persians and Siamese. They share the gentle and quiet dispositions of both breeds. They take their breed name from their coloring, which is similar to that of Himalayan Rabbits.
(4) Scottish Fold (NT$25.00): The Scottish Fold is the result of a mutation. Its small ears, which are folded forward and down, are its most notable feature. With its round head, short neck and nose, large and round eyes, and its round, pudgy body, it is the very picture of cuteness.
