For the purpose of sparing the public the inconvenience of waiting in line for a few postage stamps, since March 20, 1970, stamp vending machines have been installed outside the counters of post offices in Taipei, Keelung, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. These machines automatically sell to the public a one-dollar postage stamp, when dollar coins are dropped into the coin slit, one at a time.
