In commemoration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen as founder of the Republic of China and for his teaching concerning the importance of reforestation, the government designated March 12, 1930, anniversary of his death, as Arbor Day. In recent years the reforestation movement in Taiwan has been promoted with unusual vigor. The Postal Administration held a special competition for designs of postage stamps with reforestation as the theme. The four best ones were selected for this set of stamps.
The four denominations of stamps were issued in two lots. The first lot comprising the 40¢and $10 denominations was issued on March 12, 1954 (Perf.12 1/2) and the second lot comprising the $20 and $50 denominations was issued on April 1, 1955.
