Description
In all previous issues Dr. Sun Yat-sen's portrait was invariably located in the center of the stamps with equal decoration space on both sides. This issue was the product of the Dah Tung Book Co., which made a new plate with Dr. Sun Yat-sen's portrait placed more on the left. The Chinese characters showing the denomination appear in a vertical line in the upper right corner, and with several plum blossoms below this inscription. At the top of the stamp is the national emblem with chain-like decorations on either side.
The whole set consists of seventeen denominations printed in intaglio. Stamps valued from $150 to $7,000 are of one color; those $10,000 and above are bi-colored.
Some denominations of this issue first appeared in October 1947. The $4,000, $6,000 and $7,000 stamps were issued on January 20, February 7, and March 20, 1948, respectively, while those in the $100,000, $200,000, $300,000 and $500,000 denominations on March 31, 1948.
