The surcharge was done hy the Tze I Printing Press at Shaoyang (邵陽資一印刷社) in No. 6 Imitaion Sung characters which were written by hand and lithographed in black in two vertical lines on the sides of the portrait. The distance between characters〝內〞and〝加〞is 9 1/2 -10 1/2 mm. The top stroke of the part〝言〞 in the character〝信〞is in the form of a vertical stroke.The characters〝伍角〞(50 cents) are comparatively small in size.The bars deleting the original surcharged wording vary in thickness.D40.02 Honan (10×5) ×4 4.1943
The surcharge was done by the Yu Teh Printing Press at Sihsiakow (西峽口豫德印刷局) in No . 5 Sung typeset characters in black. There is no projection in the 1st 2 strokes of the part〝口〞inside the character 〝國〞. The distancebeween the two characters〝內〞and 〝加〞is 8 1/2 mm . The character is in the form of a horizontal stroke . The characters〝伍角〞(50 cents) are No. 4 Sung characters . The bars deleting the original surcharged wording are rather thick. Part of the stamps was surcharged piece by piece with hand chops, but none of these were put on sale.D40.03 Kiangsi (10×10)×2 4.1943
The surcharge was done by the Kiangsi Printing Branch of the Dah Tung Book Co.at Kanhsien (贛縣大東書局江西印刷分廠) in No. 5 Sung typeset characters in red. The distance between two lines of characters 〝內〞and 〝加〞is 10 mm .In the character〝附〞the top of the slanting stroke is rather high. In the character 〝已〞the top part is not closed.At the top of the character〝內〞there is a short horizontal stroke. The character 〝加〞inclines to the right side. The top part of the character 〝已〞is open. The stroke at the base of the part〝口〞in the character 〝國〞does not connect with the vertical stroke on the left side of the outer frame. The surcharge was done by the Wu Hwa Printing Press(五華印務局) in new No. 5 Sung typeset characters in red. The distance between two surcharged lines is 11 1/2 mm. The top part of the character〝已〞is completely colsed. The slanting stroke in the character 〝附〞is rather low. the last dot does not connect with any part of the character. The characters 〝伍角〞(50 cents) in New No. 5 Sung characters especially small in size were overprinted on the stamps by the Printing Press of the Yunnan Economic Association (雲南經濟委員會印刷廠). The deleting bars are thick and long.D40.07 Kansu (10×10)×2 6.1943
The surcharge was done in No. 5 Sung typeset characters in red. The distance between two characters 〝內〞and 〝加〞is 10 1/2 -11 1/2 mm. The top part of the character 〝已〞is completely closed. The last stroke(vertical stroke) of the character 〝平〞 is thin in the upper part and thick in the lower part. The dot in the middle of the character 〝附〞touches the vertical stroke on the right side. The overprinting of the characters 〝伍角〞(50 cents) was partly done by machine and partly by hand. In the former case No. 4 typeset Sung characters were used and printed in red. In the latter case several chops of various shapes were used, but the characters are Regular-Writing characters printed in red.D40.8 Kwangtung 20×10 7.1943

The stroke at the top of the part〝言〞in the character〝信〞is in the form of a horizontal stroke. The characters〝伍角〞(50 cents) surcharged thereon are No. 4 Sung characters. The deleting bars are short, measuring about 12 mm.D40.10 Kwangsi 10×10 16.8.1943
The surcharge was done by the Kwangsi Printing Press (廣西印刷廠) in No. 5 Sung typeset characters in black. The top part of the character 〝已〞 is half closed. The distance between the two lines of characters is 11 mm. In the part 〝口〞of the character 〝國〞one short stroke was omitted. The character〝國〞was written in two ways, one having〝ㄠ〞and the other having 〝口〞in the middle. The characters 〝伍角〞(50 cents) were overprinted in No. 4 Sung typeset red characters. The surcharge was made by the Chung Hsing Printing Press (中興印務局) in new No.5 Sung typeset characters in red. The distance between the two lines of the characters is 8-8 1/2 mm. The top part of the character〝已〞is half open. The stroke under the part 〝口〞in the character 〝國〞touches the outer frame at the left end, but is not connected with the part 〝戈〞at the right end. The characters〝伍角〞(50 cents) were overprinted in black by the Engraving and Printing Bureau of the Central Trust of China with No. 4 Sung typeset characters. In other words, the stamps were surcharged in bi-color, red and black, quite distinctive from other stamps.D40.13 Hupeh 20×10 12.1943

The haracters〝伍角〞(50 cents) were overprinted in No.4 Sung typeset characters in red.The deleting bars are quite thick.Some 500,000 stamps bearing the surcharge〝附加已付〞(surtax paid) sent to this district by the Eastern Szechwan District Head Office were similarly surcharged by machine. The surcharge was printed by the Mao Chi Printing Press in Sian (西京茂記印刷廠) in No. 5 Sung typeset characters in black. The distance between the two lines of characters is 10 1/2 mm. In the part 〝口〞of the character 〝國〞the first stroke is comparatively long. The character 〝內〞is smaller than the character 〝國〞 in size. The characters 〝伍角〞(50 cents) at the top of the stamps are a subsequent overprint made by that press with No.4 Sung typeset characters in black. The deleting bars are very thin, measuring about 14 1/2 mm. long.
Owing to the heavy deficits of the Postal Service, the Directorate General of Posts sent a circular telegram to all District Head Offices and Pan-Shih-Ch'u on October 9. 1942 instructing them to make necessary preparations for increase of postage by surcharging the 16￠stamps of the Central Trust Print with wording 〝國內平信附加已付〞(domestic ordinary letter surcharge paid).It was originally intended to collect a surcharge of $1 per article of mail matter effective from the 1st of November; but when the decision was made to postpone the surcharge indefinitely, all the Offices concerned were instructed by an urgent telegram on October 26 to withhold the sale of such overprinted stamps for the time being. However, in Offices which did not receive the instructions in time due to poor communications, the stamps had been put on sale for several days.
On December 3 of the same year another telegram was sent to all District Head Offices notifying them of the government's decision to raise the domestic postage rate to 50￠per unit of weight for ordinary letters, $1 for registration fee and $1.50 for registration express fee. In the same telegram the District Head Offices were directed to delete, with two thick ink bars, the original overprint bearing the wording 〝國內平信附加已付〞(domestic ordinary letter surcharge paid) on the 16￠stamps and to have the new surcharte 〝伍角〞(50￠) overprinted above such bar lines to meet the increased demand for 50￠stamps. The stamps, when thus overprinted, were immediately put on sale.
