Immediately after the introduction of Gold Yuan notes on August 20, 1948, there followed a readjustment of the postal tariff with new stamps (both definitive and postage-due stamps) issued in the new currency. The postage-due stamps of the above denominations, which were the only set bearing the Gold Yuan Note value, were altered from definitive stamps of $40 denomination of Dr. Sun Yat-sen issue (printed by the Central Engraving & Printing Works, Chungking). In a horizontal line across the top is the overprint〝改作欠資〞(altered as postage-due stamps) in new No. 5 Sung characters and on both sides of the stamps is the overprint〝金圓×分〞(gold dollars ×cents) in No. 5 Square characters, while the overprinted Arabic figures appear at the bottom. The overprint ws done in black.
