To call for all people to treasure natural ecological resources, Chunghwa Post has issued a set of four stamps on species that live near people: the Elanus caeruleus, the Falco peregrinus, the Accipiter trivirgatus, and the Pandion haliaetus. The stamps are described below:1. Elanus caeruleus (NT$8): It has a body length of 31-37 cm and plumage that is an eye-catching mix of black and white, with red eyes that have a black comma-shaped patch over them. When in flight, the contrast of black and white is particularly striking. One can see these magnificent birds in the lowlands of Taiwan and even in the outskirts of cities.2. Falco peregrinus (NT$8): It has a body length of 39-51 cm, with dark brown pupils and yellow eye rings and gray and black plumage on its head and the area around its eyes and cheeks. Its breast plumage features fine black stripes. It is recognized as the world’s fastest flyer. In recent years, there have been stable colonies in the coastal cliffs and headlands of northern Taiwan. 3. Accipiter trivirgatus (NT$10): It has a body length of 40-48 cm, with mousy gray head plumage and a short crown at the back of the head, along with a clear central line along the throat. Its breast plumage features a dense pattern of auburn stripes. It is the only bird of prey in Taiwan that can stably breed in cities. 4. Pandion haliaetus (NT$28): It has a body length of 56-62 cm, a white head and yellow eyes, with a pronounced dark brown necklace. Its back, wings and tail are dark brown, and its belly is white. It can be seen around every large body of water in Taiwan.
