As a follow-up to the releases of Taiwan Scenery postage stamps in 2016 to 2018, which included stamps on Taitung County, Tainan City, Matsu, Taichung City and Penghu County, Chunghwa Post is releasing a set of four stamps featuring activities and scenic sites representative of Yilan County. The designs follow:1. Lanyang Museum (NT$6): Situated in Yilan’s Toucheng Township, the architecture suggests the “single-sided mountain” that is characteristic of the sea cliffs at Beiguan. Its multiple textures of stone suggest the idea of stacked musical notes from “The Four Seasons” by Vivaldi. The collection inside the museum highlights Yilan’s local culture. The wetlands around the museum have been preserved, demonstrating a harmonious relationship between the architecture and the land.2. Surfing at Wai’ao (NT$8): Located in Yilan’s Toucheng Township, Wai’ao Beach features a long level stretch of sand. This outstanding coastal environment offers view of Guishan Island. Here paragliders dot the sky, whose azure colors merge with those of the sea at the horizon. The beautiful scenery draws travellers to play in the water at this surfers’ paradise! 3. Toucheng’s Chiang Ku Ceremony (NT$12): Toucheng’s Chiang Ku Ceremony takes place on the last day of the seventh lunar month when, according to folk tradition, the gates to the underworld close. Participants climb pillars that have been slickened with oil, with the objective of being the first team to make it to the top and grab the flag. The process is colorful and exciting, and it represents one of the most important religious festivals in the Yilan area.4. Dongshan River (NT$13): Scenic Lizejian Bridge spans the Dongshan River on the Lanyang Plain. On one side of the bridge one finds the Dongshan River Water Park, which is the site of boat races during the Dragon Boat Festival, as well as the Yilan International Children’s Folklore and Folkgame Festival, which takes place during summer vacation and always attracts many visitors.
