To convey glad tidings, Chunghwa Post has selected auspicious phrases used in connection with weddings and other celebrations for a set of four stamps. The designs employ gold-colored papercuts featuring auspicious design elements, such as dragons, phoenixes and flowers, which are set against a festive red background. The designs are detailed below: 1. A Match Made in Heaven (NT$3.5): The main design features a golden, heart-shaped double-happiness character (囍), as well as a bride and groom in traditional wedding attire, who are tethered to an embroidered ball. The design symbolizes a wedding.2. One Child after Another (NT$3.5): In China lotus seed is famous; people usually interpret it as “Have dozens of children,” “Have babies as soon as possible.” Since the Chinese character for lotus is a homonym for another character that means “one after another,” lotuses, with their many seeds, became symbolic of the auspicious phrase: “giving birth to one child after another.”3. The Hall Is Packed with Wealth and Riches (NT$5): The central design includes two happiness characters (喜) stylized to resemble gourds in combination with two peonies. These are enclosed within a circle of traditional coins. The design symbolizes wealth and abundance.4. A Family Experiences Two Joys (NT$12): The stamp features the double-happiness character (囍) adorned with cut-outs that present images of a swirling dragon and dancing phoenix. At the bottom of each side of the character hangs a door knocker, conveying the idea: Open the door to joy. A booklet consisting of 12 “The Hall Is Packed with Wealth and Riches (NT$5)” stamps, with the size of 26×38 (mm), will be also released. The booklet stamps have two sides perforated, but the top and bottom sides are not perforated. The booklet will be sold at NT$60 each.
