Taiwan’s warm and humid climate makes it highly suitable for growing world-famous top-quality teas, such as Oolong and Baojhong. Drinking tea is different from drinking other common beverages. The people of Taiwan consider the drinking of tea a “lifestyle art.” It is regarded as a refined leisure activity, good for the body and mind, and promoting friendships and social life. The tea ceremony now popular in Taiwan emphasizes an appreciation of tea’s colors, smells and tastes as well as the brewing techniques that perfect them. These techniques involve the choice of tea sets and other utensils to make tea, the control of water temperature, the amount of tea leaves used and the time used for brewing. These skills require much study and practice, as well as familiarity with the different brewing methods used for different kinds of tea. With these, the pleasure from drinking tea is raised to a new level.Today, when the art of drinking tea is widely celebrated, this set of five “Taiwan Tea Ceremony Postage Stamps” features the five steps in the traditional gongfu tea ceremony: preparing the tea set and warming the pot, placing the tea leaves in the pot and rinsing them, pouring hot water over the pot and warming the cups, drying the outside of the pot and pouring the tea, and smelling and drinking the brewed tea. Each of these stamps has denomination of NT$5.00.
