To promote Chinese culture and introduce exquisite ancient Chinese art works to the world, the Directorate General of Posts has taken the suggestion of the National Palace Museum to base a set of four stamps on the theme of enamel porcelains from Yung-cheng period during the Ching Dynasty: "Bowl with decor of birds and flowers," "Bowl with decor of lotus," "Bowl with decor of peonies," and "Bowl with decor of bamboo and sparrows."Mr. Chien Sung-tsun of the National Palace Museum is in charge of planning the stamps. China's tradition of ceramics and porcelain (or "china"as porcelain is also known in English) is the world's richest. From the painted pottery of the Neolithic Age, through the bricks of Chin Dynasty, the tiles of Han Dynasty, and the various developments of the Sung, Yuan, Ming and Ching Dynasties, it has evolved over several thousand years. During the early Ching Dynasty, as a result of Emperor Kanghsi's interest in industrial arts, a new kind of porcelain, enamel porcelain, was developed. During Yung-eng period, the art of enamel porcelain reached its peak. The charming and beautiful paintings on enamel porcelains that were produced during this period are delicate and brightly colored. They best represent the beauty of ancient Chinese ceramics.
