The beautiful crystal of the minerals is usually produced in small quantities and characterized by locality. Like many other nations which take pride in having some unique minerals, Taiwan boasts of more than 200 identified minerals, some of which have local characteristics. In order to publicize these national treasures, this Directorate will issue a set of 4 stamps depicting four different minerals native to Taiwan. Aragonite, Alunite, Enargite, and Hokutolite. These stamps are denominated NT$5.00, 5.00, 12.00, and 19.00. Pei-yuan Chen, professor at the Department of Earth Science, National Taiwan Normal University was invited to make the plan for the stamp design.    Minerals are a natural chemical compound, usually found in rocks, and are the major substances that form our earth. Each mineral has crystals of a particular shape and these crystals are natural works of art, some taking amazingly beautiful crystalline form, others exhibiting magnificently splendid hues. Minerals are not only sources of metal and non-metal materials our lives need, but also objects we covet for their sparkling lustre.
