As a continuing effort to publicize Taiwan's traditional architecture, this Directorate will issue a set of 4 stamps on April 9, 1997, depicting Door, Gable Wall, Carved Brick, and Column Dragon, the four most distinctive parts on old Taiwanese houses. Following the "roof" set in 1995 and the "column and beam", set in 1996, this is the 3rd in the series. Dr. Kao was invited to be the stamp design adviser, while Hung-tu Ko designed the stamps using partial close up techniques. These stamps are denominated NT$ 5.00, 5.00, 10.00, and 19.00.    With both the large-scale influx of Western civilization after the industrial revolution and the intensive competition between traditional and Western architecture, old Taiwanese houses are gradually giving way to Western-styled buildings. As "architecture" expresses culture, it is hoped that, through the issuance of these Taiwanese architecture stamps, traditional cultural heritage may be valued and treasured, and the beauty and architectural richness of old Taiwanese houses may be appreciated.
