To help promote cultural exchanges with other countries and introduce Chinese movies to the international community, this Directorate issued a set of four stamps, on September 17, 1996, featuring the scenes from four movies recommend by the General Information Office. The scenes used in the stamp design are described briefly as follows: 1.Princess Iron Fan: China' s first full-length animated film produced in 1941. The movie connotes Chinese people's determination to fight against Japan by showing the Monkey King's triumph over the Ox King, one of the plots from the novel "Journey To The West". 2.Ching Shan Bi Xie: Winner of "Best Screenplay" at the 1st. Taiwanese Golden Horse Awards, sponsored by "Chen Shin Hsin Wen" Produced in 1957, this Taiwanese movie conveys strong nationalism by highlighting the "Wuso Incident", in which Taiwan's aborigines resisted Japanese aggression. 3.Oyster Girl: The first Chinese colored film to win "Best Film" award at the 1964 Asia Film Festival. The movie focuses on the lifestyle of people raising oysters along the coast central Taiwan, inspiring the creation of a healthy realism in Chinese movies. 4.City of Sadness: First Chinese film, produced in 1989, to win Best Film award at the 1989 Venice Film Festival. The movie features Taiwanese society before and after the 228 Incident through the vicissitudes of a big Taiwanese family.
