Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu-Chi Foundation was founded in 1966. Based on the spirit of Buddhism-Great kindness to known and unknown, Great compassion for all, the Foundation has been devoting itself to the care of low income people and the cause of the poor. Hoping to further advance the "Kindness, Compassion, Joy, and Giving" spirit so that the society will become warmer and more harmonious, this Directorate issued a set of 2 stamps on May 11, 1996, featuring Tzu-Chi Foundation's "Charity Deeds and Medical Education". Under the guidance of Master Cheng Yen, and with the help of volunteers who stick to the "Sincerity, integrity, faith, and truth" working principle, the Foundation is vigorously dedicated to carrying out the so-called "Four Major Missions"--Charity, Medicine, Education, and Culture--by amassing the strength of the public sector. In recent years, the Foundation has actively participated in international relief activities, reaching out to many devastated areas outside Taiwan, and has also founded Taiwan's first bone marrow donation center. Everything being done by Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu-Chi Foundation has the effect of assisting the Republic of China in winning the international acclaim for its philanthropic efforts.
