Taroko National Park, situated in Hualien, Taichung and Nantou Counties, covers more than 92,000 hectares in the east central part of Taiwan· Bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the east, this park is traversed by the Central Cross Island Highway and features marble gorges incised by the Liwu River· Included in the territory are also steep Chingshui Cliff, the Cirque of Nanhu, the North Peak of Chilai, Taroko Mountain, and Hohuan Mountain, the only skiing area on this island· With its diversity of animal and plant species and unique ecosystem, Taroko National Park not only provides recreation of a high quality, but also functions as a resource for conservation study and education·
