From 1968 to 1979, a set of New Year's Greeting Stamps was issued each year, using one of the twelve animals associated with that particular year as the central motif. Since they had been widely welcome by collectors at home and abroad, a second series was to be released. This set, the New Year's Greeting Stamps of 1980, was the first set of this series. Taking the twelve animals as the main subject, the designs of this new series are similar in style. Each of them features an animal which is round in form, with its Chinese name written in seal style in the background. They represent one common theme-harmony, and, at the same time, signify the characteristics of Chinese culture.
The two values in this set are 1.00 and 6.00. As usual, they depict one of the twelve animals-cock associated with the Year 1981. The souvenir sheet (78 × 102 mm.) consists of two pieces each of the two stamps.
