  Continuing the issue of Famous Chinese Portrait series, another one stamp was issued on January 11, 1967, the 100th birthday of Mr. Tsai Yuan-pei. Mr. Tsai Yuan-pei (1868-1940) was born at Shaohsing, Chekiang province. He gained the 〝Chin-Shih〞degree in 1892. During the period of 1907 to 1911, he attended Liepzig University in Germany. He was proficient not only in the Chinese classics, but also in western culture. After his return from abroad, he dedicated himself to the service of education, and then was appointed Minister of Education, President of Peking University, and the Academia Sinica successively. He cultivated the talents of many people. Thus, he is regarded as one of the most influential persons in the field of Chinese education in the past 100 years.
