In the summer of the year 1949, the Dah Tung Book Co. completed the printing of a set of Peiping scenery stamps beaing no face value due to the fact that at the time of preparing this issue the postage rates were subject to repeated revisions. Such stamps were printed in intaglio in two designs, one vertical showing Fu Hsiang Ko (佛香閣), a Buddhist structure in the Summer Palace and the other orizonal showing the picture of a Bronze Ox, also in the Summer Palace. Both bear the inscription〝中華民國郵政〞(Postal Administration of the Republic of China) in Seal characters at the bottom, and 〝北平頤和園〞(Peiping Summer Palace) in Regular-Writing characters in one vertical line on the left side in the former and in two horizontal lines in the upper left corner in the latter. Before they were issued, the stamps were removed to Canton, where the face value was oveprinted with typeset characters by the Nanking Printing Press(南京印務局). The stamps bearing the picture of Fu Hsiang Ko were overprinted with the characters〝郵資壹角伍分〞at the top and Arabic figures〝15〞in green color below. The Bronze Ox stamps were overprinted with the characters〝郵資肆角〞above the Arabic figure〝40〞 in red color in the upper right corner.
