The Presidential Office Building of the Republic of China (Taiwan) was completed in 1919. In 1998 it was designated as a national historic site. The building has a majestic, elegant appearance with architectural features of high aesthetic value. Since the Presidential Office Building will turn 100 in 2019, Chunghwa Post is releasing a commemorative issue of stamps on the building. The issue features a modern design aesthetic that captures the building’s architectural characteristics, conveying the beauty and grace found both in tradition and innovation in a building with a rich artistic legacy. This highly collectible set of stamps includes a se-tenant strip of three stamps and a souvenir sheet that is sure to be a hit with philatelists. The designs follow: 1. Stamps (NT$8, NT$13, NT$15): In accordance with the central themes of the activities that are marking the building’s centennial, the se-tenant strip of three stamps features red brick, arcs and arrows, which convey the design ethos of the building’s past, present and future, thereby representing both the accumulated legacy of history and advancements to come in the future.2. Souvenir Sheet (NT$28): This includes one stamp with a full image of the Presidential Office Building, set against a brick red background and the pattern of the central themes, thus spotlighting the magnificence of the building’s architecture.A pop-up folio will be released along with the stamps, containing the se-tenant strip of three stamps and the souvenir sheet. The cover features brick red arrows conveying advancements to come in the future. With its title hot-stamped with silver on an elegant patterned envelope, the folio combines the beauty and simplicity of design. It’s certainly worth collecting.
