Following the decision of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) to permit Taiwan to hold the games, the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade is to be held in Taipei August 19-30, 2017. Around 150 countries will be sending contestants, which will increase Taiwan’s profile on the international stage and encourage enthusiasm for sport within the country. To mark this event, Chunghwa Post is issuing a set of 8 stamps and a souvenir sheet for the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade. To add to philatelic interest, this set of stamps will be printed in se-tenant format with gutter between each two stamp sets in the sheetlet. Inside the gutter; Bravo Bear, the mascot of the games, will be incarnated into four models: Torch, Hooray, Fight and I am the best; to encourage the athletes of the games. The designs follow:Stamps (NT$5 and NT$15 [four of each denomination]): Specially designed in the parallelogram format, the eight stamps are set in two adjacent rows of four and depict the eight popular sports in which Taiwanese athletes will compete: weight-lifting, archery, athletics, taekwondo, baseball, basketball, volleyball and table tennis with the mascot - Bravo Bear, and the logo of the games. In the background a line drawing shows the setting or items proper to each sport. The shaped perforation between the two sides of each stamp includes the flame of the games. Souvenir Sheet (NT$ 25): The souvenir sheet employs calligraphic strokes to depict the beautiful movements of each sport in which Taiwanese athletes will compete: weight-lifting, archery, athletics, volleyball, taekwondo, table tennis, basketball, and baseball. The marginal inscription includes the logo of the games, the mascot - Bravo Bear, and drawings of the Taipei skyscape. The shaped perforation on the two sides of the stamp includes the flame of the games.A delicate stamp folio with one set of the stamps and a souvenir sheet will be released along with this set of stamps.
