Established in 1950 as the Tamkang Junior College of English, Tamkang was the first private institution of higher education in Taiwan. In 1958, it became the Tamkang College of Arts and Sciences and in 1980 was elevated to university status. After half a century, it has become a broad-based university that encompasses 9 colleges and 41 departments and graduate institutes. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the school. To mark the occasion, the Directorate is issuing a set of two "50th Anniversary of Tamkang University Commemorative Issue." The stamps will have denominations of NT$5.00 and NT$25.00. The NT$5.00 stamp features the historical "Palace Lamp Boulevard" and palace-like classroom buildings.
