The election of the tenth president and vice president of the Republic of China was held on March 18, 2000. Mr. Chen Shui-bian and Ms. Lu Hsiu-lien have been elected, and the development of democracy in the R.O.C. has formally passed a new milestone. The new president and vice president are going to be sworn into office on May 20, 2000. To honor and celebrate this occasion, the Directorate General of Posts has taken the portraits of the president-elect and vice-president-elect as the topic for a set of two stamps and a souvenir sheet.
