The International Council of Nurses is a federation of 118 national nurses' associations representing over 1.5 million members worldwide. The aim of the council is to use negotiations to obtain greater rights for all nurses, to provide mutual support, and to make major contributions to society. The Nurses' Association of the Republic of China joined ICN in 1922. It has maintained a good relationship with other associations, performed its ICN duties well and played an important role internationally. Its proposal to make May 12 recognized as International Nurses Day was adopted by a vote of the ICN.
