To acknowledge with gratitude the great contributions of nurses, and to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the International Council of Nurses, this Directorate is issuing a set of two stamps commemorating the centennial anniversary of the International Council of Nurses. One will have a face value of NT$5.00 and the other a face value of NT$17.00. The former shows nurses providing quality long-term and humane care. The latter shows nurses of the world working hard promoting health and raising the quality of health-care services. The International Council of Nurses is a federation of 118 national nurses' associations representing over 1.5 million members worldwide. The aim of the council is to use negotiations to obtain greater rights for all nurses, to provide mutual support, and to make major contributions to society. The Nurses' Association of the Republic of China joined ICN in 1922. It has maintained a good relationship with other associations, performed its ICN duties well and played an important role internationally. Its proposal to make May 12 recognized as International Nurses Day was adopted by a vote of the ICN.
