The 68th Conference of the International Law Association is to be held in Taipei on May 24-30, at which time the association will also celebrate its 125th anniversary. This will be the first time the association has held its conference in Taiwan. It will be of great help in raising our international status and publicizing our achievements in democracy and rule of law. This Directorate is issuing a commemorative stamp with a face value of NT$15.00. The International Law Association was founded in Brussels in 1873 and is devoted to discussing and elucidating the principles of international law. Its 50 branches around the world take turns hosting its biennial conferences. Its areas of concern include laws governing human rights; international trade, currency and finance; international lawsuits; securities management; water; resources; outer space; refugees and environmental protection. During its biennial conferences, various committees make reports, and the entire association votes on resolutions to be sent to the United Nations and other international organizations to serve as the basis of the drawing up international treaties and implementing international laws
