The late President Chiang was the savior of the Republic of China, and also an outstanding anti-communist leader in the 20th century. To mourn his passing, a set of commemorative stamps was released on April 5, 1978, the 3rd anniversary of his death. The stamps take as their main designs, four historical views of great importance during his life time. They are: (1) A picture in 1912 of the late President Chiang as a young man. (2) A picture showing his courageous spirit as the National Revolutionary Army started the Northern Expedition (3) A picture of him making a speech at Mt. Lu on July 17, 1937 declaring the decisioin to fight the Japanese until victory (4) A picture of him reviewing the Armed Forces on the National Day of 1956. The NT$5.00 design was drawn by Mr. Yen Ki-shih; while the others were provided by Mr. Hu Churng-shiarn.
